Announcing Two Dads and a Drill

It all begins with an idea. This idea began around a campfire in the damp, windy forests near Seattle. This is the story of how Two Dads got started and it is probably pretty common and not all that original but it’s our story.

Thor and I have been friends for several years. Our wives met through an HR training program at UW and became friends. And like many couples, you tend to become friends with your spouse’s friends spouse because it is usually easy. We have a lot in common so that helps too! Thor and I share several “interests” which include fixing shit, building shit, and breaking shit. We are both good at problem-solving and we can visualize the end result, which are both great skills to develop when trying to build a desk, remodel a kitchen, or just fix a loose doorknob.

So, we were out camping with a group of friends, and over the years there have been several suggestions that we should start a handyman business together, but neither of us took it seriously. Until this one camping trip when somehow we started brainstorming company names while hanging by the campfire, probably drinking a beer or two. I’m not sure who came up with the name but it was perfect! A bit cheeky, a bit unique and it certainly describes us. We do have more tools than ONLY a drill!

Somehow, the life and the timing worked out and we started talking about seriously starting a business. Not sure what the hell we were doing, we jumped in feet first, and Two Dads was born. That sounds really weird, I won’t phrase it like that again!
